Actress and Author Jenny McCarthy Hands Keys of New Convertible to Winner of National Hat Design Competition

Automotive marketing is getting so wacky… er, inventive, these days that we’re just going to have to take note of the occasional program that catches our eye.

Such as this Chrysler news headline: "Chrysler Sebring Hats Off to the Derby" Grand prize Contest Winner Announced at Churchill Downs.

Actress and best selling author Jenny McCarthy, left, hands Nina Rosenberg of Prospect Ky. A ceremonial key to an all new 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Rosenberg won the vehicle as the national grand prize winner of the Chrysler "Hats off to the Derby" hat design contest with a hat designed of convertible soft-top fabric.

The upshot is that Nina Rosenberg of Prospect, Ky., won an all-new 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible by designing a hat.  Now it so happens that hundreds of other people found this contest interesting enough to enter – and Ms. Rosenberg beat them all.

But the 2nd and 3rd-place finishers weren’t sent home with hat in hand, so to speak; all three finalists got to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime weekend at the Kentucky Derby, the premiere horse racing event knows for its fashionable hats

The “Chrysler Sebring Hats Off to the Derby” national hat design contest “with a twist” culminated this past weekend at Churchill Downs as actress and New York Times best selling author, Jenny McCarthy, handed keys to an all-new 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible to the grand prize winner – the afore-mentioned Ms. Rosenberg.

Rosenberg was one of three finalists who won a special VIP weekend at the Kentucky Derby in the contest that drew hundreds of original hat design sketches from across the country. In addition to receiving tickets to the 133rd Kentucky Derby, the finalists joined McCarthy Friday evening on the red carpet at the star-studded celebrity Barnstable-Brown Charity Gala benefiting diabetes research, and will received a VIP tour of Churchill Downs tomorrow before the races.

The Chrysler brand launched the “Hats Off to the Derby” contest in January, in honor of the long-standing tradition of fans sporting fashionable hats at the Derby and the debut of the all-new 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible – with its equally stylish removable top.

The contest was open to aspiring fashion designers, horse race enthusiasts, car aficionados and all those interested in designing a hat with a twist. Entrants were required to submit a sketch of an original hat design that captured the essence of the new Chrysler Sebring Convertible and the sophistication of the Kentucky Derby, and incorporated a portion of convertible top fabric somewhere in the design. Additionally, the hats needed to be suitable for wearing while driving in a convertible and for wearing at the Kentucky Derby.
