BADASS WITH CLASS: The New Mercedes SL65 AMG 'Black Series'

If, these days, calling something 'bad' means it’s something out of the ordinary, something with an over-the-top, perhaps even a counter-culture gestalt, then 'badass' is definitely the word to describe the new Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series… and this is just the first of a trickle of the world's coolest, fastest cars that we can expect to flow from Stuttgart's version of the Lockheed's secret 'skunkworks' that produced such badass airplanes as the SR-71.

The badass car in the photos, the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, shown here as a production model for the first time, will cost a cool $320,000.  For that kind of dough it should, and does, hit 60 mph in less than 3.9 seconds, and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 199 mph… plenty enough to scare the hell out of you and your friends, but, if bragging rights are just too important, and respectable tuner with a laptop could easily fiddle the limiter chip and give the car access to the 220 mph it is designed (and geared) for.

Such a volatile, outrageous machine  should be limited to just a few, so that they remain ultimately cool and you won't see yourself driving down the street in another one just like it… unless you live in 90210, of course.  To guard against contemplating the horrible results of two ultimately cool cars trying to occupy the same space at the same time, just 200 will come to the United States.

Mercedes designed the Black Series as a technology showcase, so each will be the technical peak from which exotic features run downhill to other AMG models in the future.  This includes styling cues, and it's virtually certain that the look of this new car will influence the forthcoming SLC, Mercedes’ secret new gullwing coupe and convertible set to reach North America in 2011.
